Becoming Southwest Colorado

Power of Place magazine is a special initiative of the Colorado 150 Southwest organizing committee of the America 250-Colorado 150 Commission. The magazine contains 20 articles, produced by professional historians and local writers, that examine the history of Southwest Colorado through the events and people that have informed who we are today. We believe that, as much as we think we know our history, this magazine will nonetheless reveal events, people, and experiences that deepen our understanding of how a place — and its history—can shape us.

We have sought to represent as many cultural and ethnic experiences as possible in our articles, all in an effort to inspire us to establish common ground and respect for each other.  Enjoy reading, learning how the experiences of those before us contributed to our rich heritage.
