Learn the Fascinating Story Behind the Dominguez Escalante Expedition
While British colonists were fighting for liberty on the East Coast, two Franciscan friars set out into unknown territory, part of which is now Southwest Colorado. The expedition, spanning 159 days and 1700 miles, traversed New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and back again to New Mexico. Father Dominguez led the expedition and a journal was maintained by Father Escalante. Visit the Dominguez-Escalante Education Project (DEEEP) for more.
